Kistler Racing Engines Powers Teams to 2010 Knoxville Nationals Crown & Rookie of the Nationals Honors |
|

FREMONT, OH (8-16-10) by KistlerRacing.com Public Relations
The 50th Annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil came to a thrilling end Saturday night as Aliquippa, Pennsylvania's Tim Shaffer ended the four year reign of Donny Schatz & Tony Stewart Racing with a late race pass to pick up the win. The Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Motorsports utilized Kistler Engines in their triumph to rocket their J&J Auto Racing Chassis to the win and entered the event as one of the hottest sprint car teams in the nation after 5-straight victories the week prior.
Shaffer would start his week off by claiming quick time on his qualifying night with a lap of 15.372 around the famed half-mile insides the Marion County Fairground. With an invert of eight for the heat race at this prestigious event Shaffer would missed the transfer in his heat race, but qualified for the feature by winning the B-Main. A Top-10 finish in the feature event would give Tim Shaffer a tie for the lead in Nationals Points with Shane Stewart after the first night. Tim would fall to 7th place after Thursday's qualifier and with the cancellation of the Pole Scrambles the Kistler Racing Products/ Kistler Engines backed #83 J&J Auto Racing Chassis Sprint Car would start 7th in the Championship Feature on Saturday.
After falling back a bit during the opening half of the 50-lap final Shaffer would climb himself back into the Top-5 before the 5-minute pit stop at half way. The team made minor changes and mounted fresh Goodyear Racing rubber on the car before returning to action. A duel between Sammy Swindell and Donny Schatz had the crowd of over 23,000 on the edge of their seats, but a blown left rear tire on Swindell's mount with just two laps to go would halt the race with it's final red flag. On the final restart the "Steel City Outlaw" would pick his spot on the white flag lap to power his 410-cubic inch sprint car past Schatz and go on to claim the $150,000 pay day in front of a screaming crowd!
The 2010 Knoxville Nationals triumph would be the fourth win at "The Granddaddy Of Them All" for Paul Kistler & Kistler Engines since starting his engine program in 1993. Prior wins came with Danny Lasoski aboard the #20 Tony Stewart Racing entry in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
Another highlight for Kistler Engines & J&J Auto Racing Chassis at the 50th Annual Knoxville Nationals was picking up the 2010 Rookie of the Nationals Award with Waterford, Connecticut's David Gravel. At the end of the event, the #89 DDR entry would finish in 11th place in Saturday night's B-Main in their first attempt at qualifying for the biggest sprint car race in the world. In all 100 teams attempted to qualify for the final 24-car field for the event's gold anniversary race.
